Wednesday, November 30 - SARI SARI: This is a beautiful, tall waterfall on the east coast of the island. Sari Sari is about 1.5 hours from Ross. The hike to the waterfall is a slightly difficult 45-minute hike each way. You will be crossing rivers and climbing over boulders.
Saturday, December 3 - CRESCENT MOON/MONTESSORI SCHOOL: This hotel/restaurant is located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park area overlooking the Caribbean Sea. On the grounds you can hike, swim in their pool, visit the organic farm or reading library, have a meal, or stay overnight in their cabins. The fresh roasted coffee is a must! There is a fantastic Montessori school on the property that is run by the owners of the cabin. It is equipped with tons of educational toys and activities for young children. This is a kid friendly activity. Estimated cost is 100EC/adult +20EC/child, this includes a tour around the place as well as lunch. Activities: October 30 – November 5
Saturday, November 5 - SCOTT’S HEAD/CHAMPAGNE BAY: Great beaches for snorkeling. The water is normally crystal clear, and you get a chance to see some creatures you normally wouldn’t because there is no spear fishing allowed here.
At Champagne Bay, there are a lot of volcanic bubbles that come up from the ocean floor. At Scott’s Head, there is an old fort at the top of the cliff. You can also take the short, steep 10-minute hike up the cliff to see the fort and the beautiful views of Dominica. This is a kid friendly activity.

Activities: October 23 – 29
Wednesday, October 26 - 7 WATERFALLS HIKE: there are actually about 10 of them. You see the first official 6 during an approx. 2.5-hour difficult hike, and you see the last official one during an additional 1-hour hike. The hike starts from a small town called Campbell off the main village of Massacre (about 15 mins outside of Roseau). The hike has newly been added to Dominica’s official hikes so there are not those wooden “stairs” yet. There is a nice swimming and cliff jumping spot (maybe 20ft) along the way too. You can swim in most of the falls and you will cross rivers a few times. The trip takes about 5 hours. It’s really beautiful, with some of the falls reminding you of Bense Pool while others are more Emerald Pool-esque. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes, bring plenty of water and food, and bring your camera. This is not a kid friendly activity.
Saturday, October 29 - KIDS FESTIVAL: 10:30a to 12pm! We look forward to seeing you there! This is for children of all ages. Pizza will be served at the end. Bring your kids and show up dressed up to have fun!

I Scream for Ice Cream!
On Tuesday October 18tth, RSO will be holding our annual fundraiser to benefit the CALLS Center in Portsmouth. In fitting with the summer heat we will be having an Ice Cream Sundae sale. IGA is donating the several flavors of ice-cream and we will have over 25 varieties of toppings including brownies, cookies, pound cake, sprinkles, fruit, candies, sauces, and of course whipped cream and cherries. All proceeds will go directly to the Portsmouth CALLS Center a local organization that gives high school students a second chance to take their high school exams, learn vocational skills, and sets them up with jobs. These are the highest need kids in the local community and we are proud to serve them. Please come support this great cause, and have some ice-cream while you are at it on October 18th from 11:00a-2:00p by the shacks!
Activities: October 16 – 22
Tuesday, October 18 - ICE CREAM SUNDAE FUNDRAISER: Flyers have been posted everywhere. This is finally happening! If you still need to drop stuff off make sure to have it to the stand (near the shacks) by 10:45am at the latest. Swing by between 11:00a-2p to purchase a sundae yourself and be sure to tell everyone about it!
Saturday, October 22 - PBH CLEAN-UP/SNORKELING: 10:00am, come on time. This should be real easy and shouldn’t take more than a half hour. Right after we’re done we’re heading down to the water to snorkel so bring your swim gear as well!
Activities: October 9 – 15
Wednesday, October 12 - BOTANICAL GARDENS/CHURCH TOUR: Established in 1891, these well-appointed gardens in Roseau also contain an aviary with Sisserou parrots, plus the famous ‘crushed bus’ – victim of devastating Hurricane David. Will also stop at one or two of the historical churches along the way. Plan is to leave at 9am. Estimated cost is 40EC. Bring your own lunch or money to purchase food.
Saturday, October 15 - PAGUA BAY TRIP: We will be going to Pagua Beach first to play in the water. This is a special beach where the Pagua River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Both are great to play in. Saturday, October 8 - FORT SHIRLEY HIKE/PICNIC: Cabrits can be viewed from Ross University Subway deck. Only a 10-15 minute ride from campus/45min to an hour walk. The area is marked by green twin peaks that are thought to be formed from old volcanic activity. The national park is best known as the site of Fort Shirley, a large 18th-century British garrison which once housed 600 soldiers. Some of the fort’s stone ruins have been partially reconstructed; others are half-hidden in the jungle and are fun to explore. There are fine views of Prince Rupert Bay from the ruins of the Officer’s Quarters. The park encompasses the peninsula, the surrounding coast and coral reefs, and the island’s largest swamp. There is a snackette on site and bathroom facility. Bring your Ross ID (otherwise you’ll have to pay a site fee). Tables on site for picnicking.

The part of the river that we’ll be hiking to is great to sit and cool off in; it even has a small hot spring where you can relax as well as a rope swing and a small waterfall. At just over 3/4 mile from the main road, it is completely worth going. We will be meeting at 3:15p at the shacks and will return before 5pm.
Saturday, October 1 – RED ROCK HAVEN: located in Calibishie. The Escape Bar and Grill opens at 12:00 noon. Meals average around 25 EC. This is a nice relaxing environment with some beach chairs.
